For minor offences, a police officer can issue a spot fine sheet instead of taking you to court.
What is wrong
Listed minor offences, such as speeding, no helmet or seat belt, or not displaying the revenue licence.
What happens next
You get a spot fine sheet, and the officer keeps your driving licence until you pay.
The punishment
The amount for each offence is set by gazette and printed on your sheet. Repeat offences cost more.
What you can do
- Pay at a post office, or online through GovPay (bank app → GovPay → Sri Lanka Police → Traffic Fine), then get your licence back.
- If you believe the fine is wrong, you can dispute it and have the Magistrate's Court decide.
- If an officer asks for a bribe or behaves wrongly, note their name and number and complain.

- தண்டம் தவறு என்று நீங்கள் கருதினால், அதை எதிர்த்து நீதவான் நீதிமன்றம் தீர்மானிக்க விடலாம்.
