Police can test you, arrest you and produce you before the Magistrate's Court.
The punishment
- Death: Rs. 100,000–150,000 fine and/or 2–10 years in prison; licence cancelled
- Serious injury: Rs. 50,000–100,000 and/or up to 5 years; licence cancelled
- Minor injury: Rs. 30,000–50,000 and/or up to 1 year; licence cancelled
What you can do
- Get a lawyer at once. Legal Aid can help if you cannot afford one.
- The victim or family can also claim compensation separately, usually through insurance or a civil case.
