The rule

The driver who hit you must stop and report the accident. Their third-party insurance should cover your injury and damage.

What is wrong

What happens next

Police investigate, can charge the driver, and record your statement.

The punishment

The driver faces the penalties in the other branches (fines, licence cancellation, prison). That punishment does not pay you, so claim compensation separately.
