Foreigners may stay only for the period and purpose of their visa, and must extend it before it expires.
What is wrong

- Working on a tourist visa
- Employing or hiding an overstayer
What happens next
Immigration officers can detain overstayers and the Controller can order removal from Sri Lanka.
The punishment
- Fine of USD 250 for overstay of more than 7 and up to 14 days (2023 gazette)
- Fine of USD 500 for overstay of more than 14 days
- Plus the visa fee; possible detention and deportation
What you can do
- Apply for an extension before the visa ends
- If you overstayed, go to Immigration yourself and pay the fine
- Keep your passport and visa records
- Ask your embassy for help if detained

வெளிநாட்டவர் விசாவின் காலத்துக்கும் நோக்கத்துக்கும் மட்டுமே தங்கலாம்; காலாவதிக்கு முன் நீடிக்க வேண்டும்.

குடிவரவு அலுவலர்கள் மேலதிகமாகத் தங்கியோரைத் தடுத்து வைக்கலாம்; கட்டுப்பாட்டாளர் நாடுகடத்தக் கட்டளையிடலாம்.

- 7 நாளுக்கு மேல் 14 நாள் வரை தங்கலுக்கு 250 அமெரிக்க டொலர் தண்டம் (2023 வர்த்தமானி)
