Protected wild animals and plants, national parks and sanctuaries are protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance.
What is wrong
- Killing, shooting or trapping protected animals such as elephants or leopards
- Hunting inside national parks or sanctuaries
- Keeping, selling or transporting protected animals or their parts
- Electric fences or traps that kill wildlife illegally
What happens next
Wildlife officers and police investigate, seize animals, weapons and vehicles, and prosecute in the Magistrate's Court.
The punishment
Fines and/or imprisonment set by the Ordinance (raised in 2009), plus confiscation of weapons and vehicles.
What you can do
- Do not confront armed hunters yourself
- Note the place, time and vehicle numbers
- Inform the nearest wildlife office or police station
- Report injured wild animals to wildlife officers
