What happens next
Police record your statement and charge the offender in the Magistrate's Court.
The punishment
- Up to 5 years' imprisonment, a fine, or both (s. 345)
- The court may order compensation to you
- Posting private information online to harass: fine up to Rs. 500,000 and/or up to 5 years (Online Safety Act)
What you can do
- Write down dates, places and witnesses
- Save messages and screenshots
- Complain to police; you may ask for an officer of a particular gender
- Also report workplace harassment to your employer
